Becky + Sam's Mapleton Barn Wedding

Sam + Becky chose the Mapleton Barn in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, for their wedding day celebration. They wanted their wedding to be fun, casual, and light-hearted - and the rustic and rural charm of the Mapleton Barn fit perfectly. This was a bonus for me - I’ve wanted to shoot a wedding there ever since I heard about it a few years ago.

Becky's morning started in a beautifully converted farm building next to the barn, a serene and lovely space to get ready and hang out with her best ladies. Sam arrived a little later to check over the details and arrange his groomsmen's gifts — replica lightsabers! When the guys arrived, they of course had to try them all out!

Mapleton Barn's grounds are lushly landscaped with mature trees, white fences, and beautifully converted farm buildings. The venue is gorgeous, and while the rain held off for the most part, it cast an incredible moody light and saturated feel over the entire day.

Sam & Becky's first look was emotional and moving, and then we jumped right into photos. Their wedding party was hilarious, which made everything more fun, and we had a great time frolicking across the farm grounds and dodging the occasional rain shower. But the rain never took hold, and with the help of my collection of 20-odd Roost umbrellas, the ceremony was held outside just as Becky had imagined! They also hired a fantastic artist, Kristina, to do a live painting of the ceremony, which added such a special touch and turned out beautifully.

Then it was time for cocktails and delicious BBQ, heartfelt speeches, and dancing the night away. One of my favorite moments was when the bride and bridesmaids stole the guys' lightsabers and had a little duel outside. Sam & Becky are fabulous humans and an absolute delight to be around — I wish them all the best in their life together!
