Shannon & Grant's Turner Hall Ballroom Wedding!
Shannon & Grant wanted their wedding day to feel “joyful, meaningful, authentic, sincere and Gemutlicheit - (per couple: the German word for the warm feeling of being surrounded by great people and cheer/good times”) - but still classy/elegant feel.” That is a lot of adjectives for one day to live up to (I asked couples for 3 adjectives in our planning session) - but, spoiler: by the time we arrived at the Ein Prosit (Another German phrase from a traditional German drinking song - “Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit” that roughly translates to “a toast to coziness”) - they had achieved all their adjectival dreams and more. It was such a fun day and I learned TWO cool german phrases that I can only pronounce in my head.
Shannon and Grant chose the Iconic Turner Hall to host their wedding celebration. Turner Hall is a Milwaukee Classic. From its cream city brick exterior to its huge historic ballroom, Turner Hall is a perfect blend of history, texture, and class - in many ways it is sorta peak Milwaukee vibe. It is also a fabulous place to get married.
Long before the Bucks moved in, countless *nights to remember* have rocked out in Turner’s classic Ballroom - (I saw The Civil Wars perform there in 2011 ). And now Turner sits in the heart of MKE’s new Deer District as sort of the Elder States-person of the neighborhood.
The huge ballroom is stunning with its vaulted ceiling, vintage walls and two story windows - it is clearly the main attraction - but there are so many great things about Turner Hall. It has a wonderful bridal suite and a large balcony that provides fantastic cocktail space. The main staircase is fantastic - great for first looks and other photographic moments. I also love the secret rooftop spot where I can take my couples for sunset photos and great views of Milwaukee’s skyline!
It was the perfect choice for all the gemutlicheit shenanigans, and everything went perfectly. I met up with Shannon in the bridal suite as her mom was helping her with the final touches before we made our way to the stairwell for her first look with Grant. Their wedding party joined in the fun after that, and we had a great time having fun and taking fun photos in Turner and the alley outside.
Then, it was time for the main event, and Shannon’s dad walked her down the stairs and the aisle right up to a beaming Grant. After they made their promises to each other, it was time to party with their cocktail hour on the balcony. The couple snuck up to the rooftop for sunset before returning to the ballroom just in time for all the feasting, dancing, and Ein Prosit!
Shannon and Grant are fabulous humans - I wish them all the love, laughter, and gemutlicheit as they make their lives together!
