Mom + Dad
This summer, my mom + dad took my family to Glacier national park.
We traveled by train - 8 adults, 9 grandkids - and then explored the lakes and rivers and trails and mountains together. When you are a professional photographer - it can be hard to capture images for yourself. Even when I do, I always struggle to get find the time to edit them without holding up the shoots that feed my kids.
Anyway - all that to say, I looked at this picture from August for the first time yesterday, January 3rd. Oops. Even though it’s months later - This photo moves me.
My dad scowling, my mom laughing, neither fully aware of their context. Two imperfect and intricate humans - their personalities and genes mashed-up in me and visible in my kids. My 5 year old has my dad’s scowl. My 9 year old has my dad’s rare hazel eyes. My kids all have learned my mom’s sense of humor from me, because she has made me laugh my whole life.
All the beauty + joy + pain + struggle I will experience, possible because they exist.
