Nikki & Amanda renewed their vows at StoryHill Firehouse!
I met Nikki & Amanda because they won the LGBTQ+ Micro Wedding & Vow Renewal giveaway from the Milwaukee Wedding Community, in partnership with NACE Milwaukee & Married In Milwaukee!
Nikki & Amanda have been married for a few years, but the giveaway was the perfect opportunity for them to look in each other’s eyes again and remember all the reasons they love each other. Turns out, promises revisited, renewed, and strengthened are still very emotional and special!
The lucky couple got to work with some of Milwaukee’s best wedding vendors - a true MKE Wedding dream team! The whole affair took place at the Story Hill Firehouse!

The Fabulous Story Hill Firehouse
Nestled into Milwaukee’s Story Hill Neighborhood, Old Engine House No. 35 began its life in 1927 as one of only five Bungalow-style firehouses in Wisconsin designed by Charles Malig. The Firehouse put out fires and saved lives for decades before being decommissioned in 1998. Then the Firehouse sat and waited for someone to see what it could become next.
When Janelle Meyer-Brown, a longtime veteran of events and weddings in Milwaukee and owner of Événement Planning, saw the Firehouse, she immediately had a vision for an event and wedding space. Her vision involved keeping the wood trim, terrazzo floors, wood lockers, and 15-foot ceilings, while adding new amenities. All of the spaces are adorned with vintage firehouse paraphernalia and YES - there is a firepole! The old engine bay, with its tin ceilings, became the main events space, newly illuminated with accent lighting and beautiful 13-foot double custom wood carriage doors. The deep red doors make a stunning backdrop for wedding ceremonies and events, while also opening for events and receptions when the weather is nice! Altogether, it can handle around 175 guests and is a magical space for weddings and events!
Getting ready for the Day
When Nikki and Amanda met up in the Firehouse Bar area for their renewal, they started by getting their fabulous corsage & boutonniere from Unordinary Omen Floristry! They took a few minutes to connect and settle in, while also greeting their friends who came to cheer them on!
An Emotional Firehouse Vow Renewal
We all moved over to the Engine Room (where they kept the firetrucks) for the ceremony. The vintage tin ceiling and new carriage doors make a gorgeous pairing. Also, the floral arrangements and decor were immaculate, thanks again to Unordinary Omen, Adorn Event Company, and the vision of Brit (Officiant, Cotton Candy Savant, and Hospitality expert) and Janelle (Owner, planner, visionary). Once everyone was set, the ceremony had lots of tears of joy and laughter as Brit led the couple through their renewal.
Cake Cutting and Celebration
Straight from their renewed vows and kisses, the couple headed to cut their cake from Greige Patisserie. Greige definitely brought their best with an Earl Grey Cake with orange curd filling & elderflower buttercream. It was delicious and beautiful. Also of note, an adorable little table was set, giving a glimpse of how the room looks when converted to a reception space.
Cotton Candy Champagne & First Dances
Back in the Firehouse Bar, Happy Joy Hospitality had a Glitter Bomb Champagne toast waiting for everyone. What is a Glitter Bomb Champagne toast, you ask? First and foremost, it is magic… but more technically, it’s champagne with cotton candy in it. You have to try it for yourself to understand! Flour Girl & Flame provided a decadent veggie and cheese spread for everyone to enjoy along with their champagne and cake.
Once everyone had their fill, we headed back to the Engine room for first dances!
Couple and Wedding Party fun in the Courtyard!
Story Hill Firehouse has a surprising amount of green space for its location in the City! Enough for outdoor receptions, ceremonies, and events. For Nikki and Amanda, we only used the space for photos - but it was still perfect! The weather was really cooperating as well, giving us clear skies and sunshine! Since this was a micro-wedding with a small guest list, all in attendance were conscripted into the wedding party and joined in for the photos!
A Wedding Procession on the Story Hill Firehouse Trolley!
Story Hill Firehouse also has a Fire-Engine Red Trolley to complete the package! After everything else was done, Janelle fired up the Trolley and took us all on a wedding processional through the Story Hill Neighborhood. It was so much fun and the perfect ending to our time together!
Final Thoughts & Wrap Up:
Nikki & Amanda’s vow renewal at Story Hill Firehouse was part of the Milwaukee Wedding Community’s LGBTQ+ Micro Wedding Giveaway with NACE Milwaukee. From a heartfelt ceremony and Earl Grey cake to cotton candy champagne and a trolley ride through Story Hill, their celebration was small in size but big in love. Nikki & Amanda are fabulous humans, and their special day was great. Even though their vow renewal was “micro,” their love is huge! I wish them all the years of Love, Laughter, and Moments that Matter together!
